Deepak Chopra brought out a new book last week, Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul: How to Create a New You.
The webpage for the book, here, says:
Using Deepak Chopra’s ten steps to wholeness, you can harness those basic elements [awareness and energy] to change the distorted energy patterns that are the root cause of aging, infirmity, and disease.
So, he is saying “distorted energy patterns” are the cause of aging, and these patterns can be healed. He is saying aging does not have to happen. This is what physical immortality writers have been saying for um, oh… centuries.
Great to see this idea hitting the mainstream—I wonder… what will people make of it?
I’ve stood in bookshops many times over the years flipping though Chopra’s bestseller Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, and always decided against buying it because he didn’t go “all the way”. This time he has.
I’ve ordered my copy.

Hi Robin – It will be great to read your book review when you have finished. I’ve not read all of Chopra’s books, but his discussions about what love is and isn’t helped me clarify my own thoughts, which in turn provided a good assist in some big decisions. There are those who dismiss him as too “woo-woo” or “New Age” but I believe he sends a valuable message. It will be interesting to hear your take on the latest. Thanks.

Hi Robin,
Thanks for the heads up with Chopra’s newest book. I, like you, have been reluctant to follow him too closely because he didn’t complete the task at hand…
as you say…”this time he has.” 😉
I’ll be checking it out closely and I am curious how his followers will respond!
Glad you’re in action again!
Hugs to you Robin…Kathy

Hi Robin..
This sounds great.
I too haven’t been a follower of Chopra…
not for the same reasons as you, but this sounds interesting.
I’ve got so much reading that I would love to do and am having difficulty making the time.
Going to treat myself to some reading time tomorrow and this post of yours has encouraged me to do that 🙂

I flipped through the book at the bookstore. It looks good, but notice he didn’t say “. . . is the root cause of DEATH”. I think he still believes in death. But I look forward to your book review — it looked like an good interesting book.
Thank you for the link love.

hmm have you mentioned him on your blog before. his name is so familiar to me.
physical immortality writers? are they still alive?
i totally believe in physical immortality – that’s the way we were created, to live forever, but our inherited genetics right now makes that impossible, but one day soon, it will be realized.

Robin,
Thank you for the update. I have read everything that Chopra has written and I am like Akemi, I think he believe we will still die…I will have to put this book on my list – thank you for the referral.
I had to get new shoes so am glad I have some time to make some funds to purchase more books!

Hi Robin,
Thank you so much for the book recommendation. It will be interesting to see how the mainstream reacts to the idea that “Aging” is related to energy disorders. Then again, I think it is about time that society be exposed to this truth and it is good that it is coming from someone that people respect to some degree.
I shall check out the book. Hope all is well. 🙂

I attended the talk that Deepak gave on his book when he was in town two weeks ago. I bought a copy but have not had a chance to read it. I will be interested to know what you mean by “go all the way”. Deepak also mentioned that he is already working on his next book, to be out next year, with more revelations.

Great, Deepak is questioning the status quo, the accepted cultural belief system, providing a scientfic reason for the aging process. Perhaps, because he is mainstream, he is easing humanity slowly but surely into the ultimate; no death. Since the biggest % of deaths are due to aging, if aging is overcome, would indeed lower the death rate, n’est-ce pas?

@Betsy – ha Betsy – I’ll only do a book review if I like it, and if I’m disappointed I’ll probably just mention it at the end of a post somewhere – I’ll see. I was probably a bit ambitious describing his work as “mainstream” – as you say, many would describe it as “woo-woo” – but it is mainstream compared to my end of town!
@Kathy – yes, it will be interesting – hugs to you, too!
@Ribbon – hi Rib (may I call you Rib?)- I know what you mean about reading time – I don’t read many books myself, these days. x
@Akemi – LOVE linking to ya, Akemi. Yeah – I guess he couldn’t say that, or else he doesn’t think it himself. I’m jealous so many of you have seen it – we don’t have it in the shops here in Australia, yet – I have ordered it from Amazon.
@Natural – hi Val – I was being a bit loose when I said “writers” – I meant teachers – but I don’t like using that word. Robert Coon has info about immortals and immortalists on his website: http://www.angelfire.com/in4/alchemy2084/immortals23.html
@Mark – hi Mark – great to see you.
@Patricia – yeah, he may well believe we will still die. Oh well – he is being fairly specific about aging, isn’t he? I get that impression. Hope the new shoes are turning out well.
@Nadia – yes – It will be interesting – but I guess it depends on how clearly he puts it (and means it). After all, Ageless Body Timeless Mind was a bestseller, yet actual agelessness was somehow overlooked by the majority. Lovely to hear from you, Nadia!
@Evelyn – hi Evelyn – I thought of you, because you mentioned his talk on Facebook, and I wondered it this was what it was about. By “go all the way” I meant being specific about not aging – I’m going partly on a review on Amazon where someone complained about the book, saying that it “over-stated” things, by suggesting that “if you live right and think right you will never age, never get sick, never have any problems, and live in everlasting ecstacy and peace” – ha – just the sort of book I would like 🙂
It may well not be any more specific than ABTM, though.
@Suzen – hi there Suzen and welcome to this blog! Parl tu Français? (I’d better stop right here) – yep – if aging was overcome, all sorts of things would change, wouldn’t they? Partly because overcoming it would be a product of our letting go of fears – so the resulting community would be less fearful. Lovely to see you here!

As you might guess, I’m not a fan of Chopra. I have Ageless Body, Timeless Mind but kept losing interest when I tried to read it. His practical tips about diet, exercise, etc. seem to go along with others, but the rest is just too airy for me. I find it hard to read things that make it sound like we’re already in heaven, because I know it doesn’t apply to me. If just one of these things would actually work for me, I suppose that would help, but I’m tired of trying and being disappointed.

I’ve liked some Chopra books, and not others (he is unbelievably prolific!) so it will be interesting to see what he is doing in this one. My favorites have actually been his stuff on Jesus, and how he has re-interpreted Jesus teachings, which has REALLY pissed some people off, especially here in the states. Based on interviews I’ve heard snippets of, he does seem to be positioning this book as him going in a new direction with his health stuff, and obviously he does get ALOT of media coverage, so it will be interesting to see what they pick up on, and what gets covered. I hope you like and do review it!

Hi Rob,
I ordered my copy a couple of days ago as well! I enjoyed Ageless body, Timeless mind – I quoted lots from it in my “Physical Immortality – the mass possibility’ paper. That’s where I first read of the Ellen Langer Counterclockwise study. Can’t wait to read it! Anything that puts a major ?? over the mass hypnosis of ‘ageing’ excites me.
I’m just reading one called Cellular Wisdom by neuroscientist Joan C King Phd – only read the first chapter – I dont feel it’s PI, however it’s interesting and her first sentence is ‘EVERY CELL IN YOUR BODY IS A GENIUS!’
I’m running a workshop at the end of November called ‘ Your Body – The Miracle’ Sometimes I feel like I’m part of a divine cheer squad for the physical body!! It is absolutely miraculous and the respect for it from all humanity is long overdue.
lots of love Janni

@Kelly – hi Kel – I haven’t read any either! And I don’t know why either, really – in my case I think it was simply that I only heard of him after I had already been through my discovery phase, and by then I had lots of books to sustain me.
@Dot – hi Dot – when I first got into all these ideas in 1986, I came across very practical material very quickly, and I spent hours a day doing growth/healing activities (eg affirmations, visualisations) and also rebirthing and workshops. I can understand you losing interest in material that doesn’t provide a “how to” that resonates with you.
@Lisa – hi there Lisa – yes he is extremely prolific! LOL at Deepak pissing people off over Jesus interpretations – and I guess I’m gonna have to do this review.
@Davina – ha Davina – for some reason I was thinking of you a little when I chose to use this voice in this post. Don’t know why, really 🙂
@Janni – hi Janni! Thanks for the heads up on the book! I’m glad my body is so full of genii, and your workshop sounds very interesting!

Robin, Deepak Chopra is a favorite of mine, probably because I enjoy how his writing/speaking gives voice to some ancient wisdoms of “the east”, which I think we in the west are sorely lacking. I also first resonated with quantum reality because of his speaking (I’d bought one of his CD series).
I like Suzen’s thought that he might be “easing” his followers into some more radical thinking (oh geez, did I call you a radical? Ha, ha, we need more of this anyway, so be complimented please). Either that, or he’s just chicken, or doesn’t see things the way immortal thinkers do . . . but regardless of how any individual resonates (or not) with his message, enough people do, indicating there’s a powerful hunger out there clamoring for wisdom, and he seems to be successfully feeding those masses, and stimulating deep questioning, and that’s got to be a good thing, no?
I will say this: when listening to his CDs, his very heavy accent FORCES one to listen intently, and do nothing else while listening!

@Fannie Junster – oh Jannie – you were my first Jannie and you will always be my true Jannie (I’m sure Janni Lloyd won’t mind me saying that). Best of luck with the ol’ energy patterns.
@Jeanne – more than happy to be called a radical – heh. I totally agree with you that the most interesting thing is that masses of people (including myself) are looking to evolve (rather than how they are thinking of doing it). I love your point about being forced to focus because ot his accent – I know someone who is dyslexic and reads very carefully, taking everything in, because he has to.

Hello Robin,
I love your blog!
I am convinced that traumas are at the basis of the aging process, especially womb and ancestral trauma.
There may be other mechanisms as well, I don’t know if you are familiar with the books Peak State of Consciousness vol 1 and vol 2by Grant McFetridge Ph.D his work on trauma and behaviour and peak states is remarkable
In the first book he shortly mentions that when we go through our first contraction in the womb we subconsciously decide how long do we want to live
He works on trauma by experiencing it but a friend of mine has mentioned to me something called RPT that works with trauma in a painless and lightning speed way, I might give it a try, for now I’ve been using EFT mostly
Also Grant mentions a mechanism called tribal block, though not in regard to aging, but I think it can be one of the mechanisms
Tribal block is when an energetical pressure not to change because “it has always been this way in our family/group” is felt and as it relates to changing one’s status or station in life and obtaining peak states I guess it applies to aging too
Another mechanism I think are soul decisions between lives, I love Michael Newton’s work
I believe the soul is traumatized as well by default by the perceived separation trauma from Source and that has a strong influence and needs to be reframed
About Chopra, I have Ageless Body but I never got around to read it yet!
Blessings!
Sookie

Aging doesn’t have to happen? Seriously?
Robin says
@Giovanna – hi Giovanna – yes, although I haven’t read any of Deepak’s books, I have seen him in videos and read bits and pieces elsewhere, and have a great deal of respect for him. Hope you enjoy it!
@Chris – ha ha – you make me laugh, Chris. I noticed that, too.
@sookie – hi there sookie and welcome to this blog! And thanks for the contributions. The various traumas and patterns you describe are similar to ones rebirthers deal with in rebirthing – and I also think “the perceived separation trauma from Source” is a significant factor causing aging. Blessings to you, too!
@SnaggleTooth – hiya ST – if you read it, I’d be interested to hear what you thought.
@ElderGuru – hi there ElderGuru and welcome! It must seem a bit odd to land on this blog and find the statement “aging doesn’t have to happen” – but this is a central theme over here, this blog being about physical immortality and all. Cheers!

Akemi - Yes to Me says
I’m half way through the book and I’m honestly a bit disappointed. While the book has many great points, they are covered up with politically correct terms, so the overall tone lacks clarity and audacity.
My biggest issue with the book is how it treats the soul. He talks as if there are “you” and “your soul” and you can learn how to utilize your soul. (while at the same time, he says you are the soul.)
I think the book is useful for those who never thought they are spiritual beings in the physical bodies. I actually don’t think Deepak Chopra thinks in these terms, but he does make things very confusing.

Hi Akemi – actually, it has been a point of difficulty for me in reading blogs that are “explaining” we are more than our bodies – to me this has always been a given and I can’t relate to not thinking it (and they usually talk about how wonderful death is, to do it). And “utilize your soul” implies the primary identity is with the body.
So I relate to what you are saying – and it sounds like it would be better if he just spoke his truth.
